June has been one of those months. If you’re an entrepreneur, I’m sure you know exactly what I mean. Between keeping up with client work, and handling the usual family chaos, I’ve felt like I’ve been running on empty for weeks. And to be honest, I haven’t really felt like myself. Between the demands of work, the kids’ schedules, and life in general, I’ve been stretched thin.
But as I sit here, about to pack for a family camping trip from for the next 5 days, I’m reminded of something incredibly important: stepping away is not just nice, it’s necessary.
I haven’t done this in a long time. I mean really stepped away and left my laptop behind. The last time I took a break like this was back in February, and before that, well, it feels like it’s been forever. As a business owner, I’ve always had a hard time fully unplugging. There’s this nagging voice in the back of my head that says, “If I’m not constantly working, everything will fall apart.”
But the truth is, it’s okay to step back. It’s necessary to step back. I’m incredibly lucky to have a solid team that I trust, and I know that with their support, everything won’t crumble while I’m away. (And if something does go wrong, we’ll figure it out, right?)
Here’s why taking a break is so important, not just for your well being, but for the success of your business:
I’ll be honest, I’m still a little nervous about stepping away. But I know deep down that this break is what I need. I can’t pour from an empty cup, and I’m learning that taking time off is part of how I show up as the best version of myself. For my business, my team, and my family.
To all the entrepreneurs reading this: If you’re feeling like you can’t take a break because everything will fall apart, remember that your business (and the world) will be just fine. In fact, taking the time to recharge will make you a better business owner in the long run.
So, here’s to taking the time to rest, recharge, and come back stronger. See you on the other side!
